my dream neep heid

Kate Davies is one of my favourite designers, knitters and bloggers. I admire her extensive knowledge and adore her designs which are always miraculously combining classical/traditional and quirky elements. When I saw her neep heid, I was instantly and totally smitten and knew (with regard to my blog name and my soft spot for Baldrick and his everlasting dream of “a turnip of his very own”) that my heis, too, needed a neep heid. So I grovelled asked if I might possibly be a neep heid testknitter.

Kate, being the nice and generous person she is, agreed instantly and even offered to send me the yarn.

A few days later I cast on for what I know now is he first of many neepy tams. I loved every minute of knitting and was only slightly disappointed by the fact that it was finished so soon (in fact, blocking and drying took about twice as long as knitting – go figure!)
Yesterday we were finally able to take some pics in the morning sun – only three as a very demanding little corgi couldn’t quite see the importance of this photoshoot and insisted on playing “snatch the ball off the corgi if you can” instead. But three is better than none, surely?

Verdict: I love this. I love the little neeps, the stalks, the i-cord cast-on, the corrugated ribbing, I love how the yarn (Jamieson & Smith 2-ply jumperweight) knitted up and even more how it bloomed after washing. In fact, I may have placed an order for a few more neepy/beety tams.

Kate: Thank you for everything. The cunning plan is in full progress. And one thing I know: Baldrick would approve!

Hello Viv,

What fascination! You, too, love Kate Davies work? I am positively fascinated about your neep heid! What a great project to be part of!

I have read Kate\’s blog up and down and to now find out that there is another woman out there all infected. Do you also like Scotland as much as I do…?

Plus, you sound bilingual.

I live in Mainz, Germany and it is just lovely to know that somewhere out there a Viv is knitting along. Thank you for sharing all you do. Great to have come across your work.

All the best,
Jo

bianca
